Melanie J. Granberg, Esq.


Ms. Granberg earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver, College of Law and was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1999. She has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado. Ms. Granberg has been with the firm of Gablehouse Calkins & Granberg, LLC since 1997 and in her time there, has worked on a variety of cases ranging from CERCLA litigation to complex multi-party asbestos litigation to representation of citizens groups concerned with local land use decisions.


She was elected to the board of the Colorado Hazardous Waste Management Society in 1999 and served as President of the organization for the 2003 term. She is presently serving the CHWMS board as chair of their By-laws/Nominations Committee.


Ms. Granberg is also a member of the Jefferson County Local Emergency Planning Committee and has considerable experience working with local and state agencies on emergency planning programs. She also works closely with the Colorado Emergency Planning Commission on a variety of state-wide emergency planning issues and is the 2003 recipient of their Len Boulas award for outstanding contribution in the field of hazardous materials education, planning and response. Ms. Granberg has done an extensive amount of work on implementation of the Clean Air Act Section 112r Risk Management Program throughout Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. She managed an EPA funded program for promoting compliance with and awareness of the RMP program.


Ms. Granberg served as a member of the Colorado Board of Health’s School Toxics Advisory Committee. This Committee was formed to evaluate the scope and nature of safety issues associated with chemical storage, use and disposal in schools. Based on its evaluation, the Committee advised the Board of Health regarding actions to be taken to resolve the problems identified. The Final Report to the Colorado Board of Health may be found on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s website. She continues to work on this program through the Jefferson County LEPC and the Colorado Emergency Planning Commission.


From 2001-2002, Ms. Granberg served on the Colorado Land and Water Fund of the Rockies’ Forest Protection Team. The FPT is a group of activists, lawyers, policy professionals and scientists committed to protection of public lands in Colorado and the West.
